Google Chrome Takes 3rd Place in Browser Market Share

Google's Chrome browser seems to be expanding in both features and users day by day. It's a popular solution for those using Windows, and is currently in beta on Linux and Mac OS X. Now, it's being reported that the browser has overtaken Safari in market share. According to Computerworld, the release of the Mac and Linux betas for the software helped push it into third place, past Apple's Safari browser. The week of December 6-12 saw Chrome hitting 4.4% market share, an increase of 0.4%, beating out Safari, which held 4.37%; to show how important the browser hitting beta on Mac OS X was, before the release, Chrome held 0.32% of the share on the OS during November, which shot up to 1.3% afterwards. It was said that the split between people switching to Chrome was evenly divided between Safari and Firefox.

Interestingly, the jump was even bigger on Linux; after the beta was released, the browser saw a 6.34% market share, which is a fairly substantial increase from the previous 3.81%. Vince Vizzaccaro, the executive vice president of Net Applications, stated, "I believe Linux will be the more intriguing arena to watch. Firefox currently dominates browser usage on Linux the way that IE dominates Windows systems and Safari dominates Mac systems. With the emergence of Chrome, I'll be curious to see if Chrome will be to Firefox on Linux what Firefox is to IE on Windows… a forceful competitor." It will be interesting to see how Google's browser does on Linux, as it seems to show the most room for growth.

Mobile Phone Market to Reach 1.214 Billion Units in 2009

The global mobile phone sales to end users during the ongoing year are expected to top 1.214 billion units, driven mainly by the stronger sales in the Western European market and by an increase in handsets sold via the gray market, a recent report from Gartner shows. According to the research firm, the total sales will decline only 0.67 percent when compared to those registered in 2008. Moreover, the new forecast adjusts the previous one that pointed at a 3.7 percent decline in handsets sales in 2009, and suggests that we should witness a 9 percent increase in sales next year, when compared to 2009.

Teen Internet Addicts More Likely to Self Harm

The Teenagers who are addicted to Internet are fall in self-harm behaviour, this repost is according to an Australian-Chinese study. Researchers surveyed 1,618 adolescents aged 13 to 18 from China's Guangdong Province about behaviour such as hitting themselves, pulling their own hair, or pinching or burning themselves, and gave them a test to gauge Internet addiction. Internet addiction has been classified as a mental health problem since the mid-1990s with symptoms similar to other addictions. The test found that about 10 percent of the students surveyed were moderately addicted to the Internet, while less than one percent were severely addicted.

November 2009 : Firefox, Opera & Chrome Market Share Up; IE, Safari Down

Browser Market Share: 
Just same as any other month, Internet Explorer or IE market share keeps going down, this time it fell from 64.64% to 63.62% (1.02 point decrease). 
With the upcoming Firefox 3.6 release, this browser increased its market share by 0.65 point, from 24.07% to 24.72%. 
After previous gain in October, this time Safari’s market share fell from 4.42% to 4.36% (0.06% decrease).

Google Next-Generation Search Engine Caffeine Is Now Live

Google has started to roll out its upgraded search engine index Caffeine which is now live at one data center. Google announced that it would gradually introduce Caffeine to the main search engine after it closed down the sandbox which it set up for the project. There were no announcements at the time as when to expect the move to take place and, in fact, there haven't been any announcement this time around either, but the company has confirmed that the roll-out is in progress.

A recent lawsuit settlement may seem like vindication to AMD, but the market responds to prices better than advertising.

The Propus core 45nm processor has four cores running at 2.6 GHz, with 512 kb L2 cache dedicated for each core. It lacks L3 cache memory, but supports full hardware virtualization, which means that one of its cores could be used to run Windows XP from within Windows 7.

Starting Today, Cellphones without Valid IMEI are Going to Ban

If you have a Chinese mobile, most of which do not have IMEI numbers or hava a duplicate IMEI number, there is need to worry, as the ICA (Indian Cellular Association) will be imposing a ban on the use of such cellphones starting last midnight.
IMEI numbers or International Mobile Equipment Identity numbers are unique numbers assigned to each handset. In case of loss or theft of cellphones, these can be used to track your mobile.
